The Selkirk and Monashee Mountains lived up to their reputation as one of the "snowiest places in Canada" with record snowfall during the 2011/2012 season. Snowpack measurements approached eight metres in many areas of our tenure thanks to an amazing 17 metres (55 feet) of snow fall. Phenomenal powder skiing was enjoyed all season long with an average of four metres (13 feet) of snowfall per month.

With consistent snowfall, conditions were primed to take full advantage of our 500,000 acres of terrain, including over 200 established runs. Thanks to the abundant snowfall, we were able to revisit many of our classic runs, offering pristine powder from the summits to the valley bottom. We were also able to discover five new runs!

This season's success is reflected in our customer surveys which confirmed that 98% of our guests will ski with us again, while 97% plan to recommend us to others. According to the surveys, we were able to exceed over 99% of our guests' expectations. New products such as the "Advanced Day Heli" package (now called the "Powder Adventure") and "New Year's Heli Ski Special" were well received.

With the ear-to-ear grins fresh in our minds, we want to take the opportunity to say a special "Thank You" to all our guests who came to experience heli skiing or boarding with Selkirk Tangiers this past winter. Anne Keller, a Washington native, has been climbing since 1985, and has been guiding since 1995. Her guiding experience includes over 50 ascents of Mt. Rainier, several expeditions to the Alaska Range, and numerous routes in the North Cascades, the Sierras, and the Tetons. She has established new routes in the North Cascades, led an expedition to the Pantheon Range, and she is proud to have completed the popular ski mountaineering objectives: the Forbidden Traverse, and the Spearhead Traverse — each in a day. Anne was recently featured in Freeskier Magazine, highlighting her achievement of becoming the AMGA's sixth female ski mountaineering guide.

Enhancements in 500,000 acres of incredible, exclusive terrain!

Preparation for the season began this summer with three weeks of glading focused on opening new terrain and enhancing existing runs such as the already spectacular, Goldmine and Paradisio, which doubled in vertical from 600 to 1200 metres due to glading.  In addition, new landing and pick up zones were developed throughout the tenure.

Exciting new products are available this season to Selkirk Tangiers guests, including Advanced Day Heli, Women’s Retreat, Steeps Camp, Lift and Heli Combo, and No Frills Heli Skiing. These new products were developed as a result of customer feedback and offer guests more options and flexibility for their heli skiing vacations.   The Advanced Day Heli was introduced to allow experienced skiers and snowboarders instant access to a big day of heli skiing while the multi-day Women’s Retreat offers the ultimate girl trip for women with like mind-sets and a passion for skiing, and includes all the pampering such as spa treatments, cocktails, specially-made pink Selkirk Tangiers t-shirts, and a donation made in the honour of each participant to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
