Safety

The primary responsibility of STHS is to provide a culture of awareness and confidence so that every guest has an enjoyable ski vacation. Our staff are trained to ensure that you are aware of your surroundings so that you can relax and feel at ease from the moment you arrive. Drivers, guides, and pilots are trained to the highest levels of their profession to ensure you maximize your experience.

Guests on our multi-day programs attend an "Introduction to Helicopter Skiing" upon their arrival. An experienced staff member will brief the group on the skiing agenda, expectations, and answer any questions or concerns that you may have. During this welcome orientation we will play our safety video which provides guests with an overview of some of the protocol for ensuring a safe heli ski experience. Before boarding the helicopter for your first flight the pilot will give a detailed outline of procedures you will be expected to follow when around the helicopter.    

Your Guide will carefully select routes to provide a challenging, yet enjoyable experience for your group based on your needs and comfort level. Each morning our guides and pilots attend a comprehensive meeting to assess the current weather and mountain conditions. While you are out skiing your guide and several members of the group will carry backpacks with the necessary safety gear for traveling in the snow covered mountains. 

It is mandatory for every heli skier to wear and be able to properly use a STHS transceiver. The Barryvox Pulse is our new transceiver of choice, which is a 3-antenna digital transceiver. On your first morning, your guide will give you a thorough briefing on the use of your beacon, and each guest will have the opportunity for hands-on practice with their transceiver. You will also recieve backcountry orientation and a review of all other safety equipment.

This season we also have the option for guests to rent the Snowpulse airbag backpack for $30/day for the first three days, and $25/day for each day after. We encourage guests to visit their website and view the detailed video explaining how this product works.
