At Selkirk Tangiers Heli Skiing, our mission is to provide iconic mountain adventures by soaring above expectations.

A fourth generation Swiss Mountain Guide, STHS founder Peter Schlunegger introduced helicopter skiing to the Revelstoke area and the Selkirk Mountains in 1978. The tradition of guiding in the Selkirk Mountains runs deep. In 1899, Karl Schlunegger, the great-grandfather of Peter, became one of the first guides to work from the historic Glacier House lodge in Rogers Pass, in what would become Glacier National Park.

The Hillcrest Hotel serves as our main base, where our guests stay and enjoy the finer qualities of life with superb dining and accommodations. STHS moved into the hotel once construction was completed in 1999 and the lodge continues to be an exceptional facility for our operation – here you will find a well-stocked retail store, boot room, and ski shop. The office for our reservation staff is located on the main floor in the newly renovated lobby. We take pride in making you feel at home in a casual setting that allows guests to relax throughout their vacation with us.

Though our staff have diverse backgrounds, passion for the snow, mountains, and exceptional customer service bring them all together. Selkirk Tangiers promotes and fosters a friendly working environment where staff work together to create an unforgettable guest experience.

Historical Timeline

1978 - The First Flight

Our first exploratory flight was staged in Albert Canyon, Rogers Pass. Guests stayed in roadside RVs – a far cry from our modern lodge! The area they skied was in the Selkirk Mountain Range near the Tangiers River – hence our name: Selkirk Tangiers.

Peter Schlunegger - The Founding Father

Peter, pictured here in the early 1980s, was drawn to Revelstoke because of the quantity and quality of the snow as well as the wide variety of terrain – allowing for more flexibility to adapt to weather and snow conditions with a mechanised skiing operation.

1983 - Eriks Suchovs Joins STHS

In the early 80s, a fresh-faced young guide named Eriks Suchovs joined the STHS team. Eriks spent 38 winters with STHS and the last 15 years at the helm. He has shared thousands of powder turns with our wonderful guests and we know he will be missed! Soon he’ll be swapping the skis for his sailboat and we wish him all the best for the future! Eriks, thank you for all your hard work and dedication to our guests and staff at STHS! Happy Retirement!

A Message From Eriks

“During my tenure at STHS, I’ve witnessed the evolution of a small operation with only a handful of guides into what we are today: a heli-skiing world leader in safety, precision, and efficiency. We have flown thousands of guests through the skies of the Columbia Valley, and matured into a slick outfit with a collective passion and unwavering commitment to offering the world’s best skiing.”

1990 - First A Star Flight

The dawn of an optimistic decade brought a new level in private small group heli skiing.

1999 - A New Home

Just before the turn of the millennium, the Hillcrest Hotel opened its doors, creating a new home for STHS.

2007 - STHS Joins Revelstoke Mountain Resort

Selkirk Tangiers’ acquisition by Revelstoke Mountain Resort has allowed us to combine the amazing potential of the resort with STHS’s unrivaled terrain. Guests are provided with access to both world class helicopter skiing/boarding and North America’s most exciting new ski resort, which boasts the highest vertical descent on the continent – 5,620 ft (1,713 m).

Celebrating 45 Years of Heli Skiing

For the 2022/23 season, we’re looking back on 45 years of pioneering heli skiing. With the biggest tenure in the heli skiing capital of the world, a rich history, industry recognition for our safety culture and a strong team, we’re excited to see what tomorrow brings!

Dave Pehowich Appointed General Manager

Dave embodies our mission statement – soaring above expectations for both our guests and team.

Following the retirement of Eriks Suchovs, Dave Pehowich was appointed General Manager for Selkirk Tangiers Heli Skiing.

Dave started his career with STHS in 1996. While he was undergoing his ACMG guide training, he was able to work in a few departments at STHS and learn the inner workings of a heli ski company. Dave quickly became one of our integral lead guides, making plans for where to ski in our 500,000 acres of terrain. Over the years, Dave’s leadership and knowledge flourished, which allowed him to progress in his career as our Operations Manager. In March 2022, Dave was appointed General Manager for STHS, following in the footsteps of his mentor, Eriks Suchovs.
